Curated as part of the 28th Annual MIX Festival of Queer Experimental Film, NYC

Molt is a process-driven video installation that examines both the literal metamorphosis of a moth’s life cycle, and the metaphysical embodiment of one’s truer self. The three stages, caterpillar to chrysalis to moth, are manifested through a durational physical performance presented in a video triptych, an immersive view of the transforming body. Undulating and finding stillness in each stage, utilizing elements of Butoh dance, we are witness to a cathartic and kinetic emergence.

A live performance activated the installation space on opening night, performed by Shawn Escarciga.
